The long awaited Redpoint Climbing Centre in the centre of Birmingham is preparing to open its doors to the local climbing community. Seven months of construction have gradually seen an old industrial unit and gantry crane evolve into an indoor climbing centre that has captured the imagination of climbers from all over the country.
The final paint job is being completed by local artist Anthony Dodd to visually stunning effect; highlighting the many angles, corners, curves and arêtes which come together to form some impressive lines. Meanwhile, a team of routesetters who have been champing at the bit have begun bolting some of the 7000 holds onto the walls, creating imaginative routes that take in some spectacular ground over the full range of grades.
Boulderers will be equally well catered for, with a downstairs bouldering cave created by Rob Mirfin as well as a unique, purpose-built bouldering area on the mezzanine, which has been designed by Entre-prises to complement the rest of the centre and provide an extensive facility for climbers of all abilities.
Redpoint offers something for everyone, from beginners to Jedi. For climbers seeking qualifications there will be organised SPA courses and the Climbing Wall Award scheme. Redpoint will be a Primary Centre for the new NICAS climbing award, which offers five levels of award aimed at complete novices to accomplished indoor climbers and as a Nationally Accredited award it is also the perfect scheme for local schools.
For those looking to update their climbing gear, the on-site climbing shop Rock On will be stuffed to the gunwales with every imaginable bit of kit you could ever desire and expert staff to help you choose the right gear for you.
We believe the things that make a good climbing centre are great quality routes and a friendly atmosphere and we are determined to provide both. We hope you’ll enjoy putting us to the test.

As if the new year wasn’t pant-wettingly exciting enough for us all, we are thrilled to announce that Chris Sharma will be doing a lecture and audio visual show at Redpoint on Monday 17th March as part of his first ever UK tour.
