Alpinist Magazine to be Relaunched

Alpinist closed down at the end of November 2008 after the release of its 25th edition. The US magazine had been famous for the high quality of its writing, photography and for its high price tag.
The magazines re launch is due for April this year. Height of Land Publications (HOL) bought the title in early 2009. HOL publishes two skiing magazines in the US and according to HOL president and publisher Jon Howard “Alpinist fits perfectly into our family".
HOL have commissioned a new editor, Michael Kennedy for the re launch. Kennedy is well know in the US for having worked on Climbing Magazine from 1974 to 1998 and had been an advisor for Alpinist from its very first edition.
The Mountain World blog run by Dougald Macdonald speculated that the new Alpinist might be somewhat different from its old self. Michael Kennedy had this to say in reply:
“the content will remain every bit as beautiful and compelling as ever. You'll still see plenty of stories and photos of cutting-edge alpine climbs. In seeking to appeal to a broader spectrum of climbers, my intention is to open Alpinist up a bit in tone and voice, to focus on what climbers have in common, to inspire and express the very best of the climbing experience at all levels.”
