British National Climbing Championships

The dates and venues for the BBC’s (British Bouldering Championships) and the BLCC’s (British Lead Climbing Championships) have been set. The BMC is calling all competitors, long standing and new, to sign up for what promises to be another nail biting summer of comp madness.

The best British boulderers will compete at the Cliffhanger festival in Sheffield on 11-12 July 2009. The festival takes place in Millhouses Park and the Bouldering Championships are one of many events to watch or take part in on the day. Last year saw more than 100 competitors battle it out and the reigning champions will all be back to defend their titles this year. The reigning senior champions are Ned Feehally and Audrey Seguy with junior champions Jonathan Stocking and Shauna Coxsey.

The BLCC’s will be held on the new competition wall at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (EICA) at Ratho on the 18-19 July 2009. Over 60 competitors took part last year at the championships held in Blackpool. Again, the senior and junior champions will all be back to defend their titles. Will Audrey Seguy be able to defend her position in both the bouldering and the lead competitions this year?

The application deadline for both competitions is the beginning of July (3rd and 10th). There is no qualification process for entry into either competition and the BMC welcomes new and experienced competitors alike. If you think you’ve got what it takes or would like to find out then sign up!

Both Championships have lots to offer spectators. The BBC’s taking place at The Cliffhanger Festival have been very well received for the last few years. If the competition tension is too much to handle then other activities on the day include a dyno comp, parkour, scuba diving, slack lining, reverse bungee, refreshments, a lecture marquee, snowboarding displays and lots more.
