Repeat of Tehuelche Route on Fitz Roy

Planet Mountain reports on the Slovenian team of Urban Azman and Boris Lorencic who in January 2009 repeated the Tehuelche Route on the North Face of Fitz Roy in Patagonia.

The Tehuelche Route is a formidable 1300m long and has seen only two ascents. Indeed the first ‘ascent’ in 1986 did not actually arrive at the summit with an Italian team being forced to stop 100m bellow the summit due to high winds. It took Rolando Garibotti and Doug Byerly to make the second ascent in 1996 in Alpine style and since then only Azman and Lorencic have succeeded on the route.
