US Team Climbs 6,778m Peak in Nepal

Joe Puryear and David Gottlieb have have made the first ascent of Jobo Rinjang (6,778m) in the Khumbu Region of Nepal. The pair climbed direct up the South face, alpine style, over 6 days.

They had intended to climb Lunag I (6,895m) which is probably the tallest unclimbed summit in Nepal for which permits are obtainable. Unfortunately the apparent dangers and difficulties of a heavily corniced ridge traverse from the summit of Jobo Rinjang precluded this. After a night on the summit of and several attempts on the the ridge to Lunag 1 the pair had to be content with the 1,700m South face of Jobo Rinjang.
