Pearson repeats route to the left of The New Statesman

James Pearson has repeated Ryan Pasquill’s recent new route Gerty Berwick that takes the line to the left of The New Statesman at Ilkley crag, North Yorkshire. James had tried the line on several occasions before ticking the route on Friday 13th February.

After Ryan first led the line in January of this year the crux section of the route was said to be highball Font 8A.  The line had repulsed efforts by several top climbers over the years.  John Dunne and Jerry Moffatt both tried it but could not link the moves.

A report on James Pearson’s ascent will be in the next edition of Climb Magazine.
