Best of British - BMC set dates for climbing championships

Dates are now set for all of this year’s national climbing competitions organised by the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), where competitors will battle it out to become British champions.

The British Bouldering Championships will once again take place at the Cliffhanger festival in Sheffield on 11-12 July 2009. The following weekend (18-19 July), the British Lead Climbing Championships will be held for the first time at EICA Ratho in Edinburgh to make use of the new international standard competition wall. These two championships are open to all and details on how to enter will appear on the BMC website in due course.

The BMC Leading Ladder Final will take place on 4 April 2009 at the Foundry in Sheffield. The format will be different to last year and will be more similar to a normal leading ladder round. Competitors will attempt 5 routes over a 6 hour period, with no qualifiers and no isolation. The top 10 climbers from each of the 12 categories will be invited to take part.

The BMC Youth Climbing Series is now underway and results of the first round are available on the BMC website at http://www.thebmc.co.uk/ycs. The British final will be held at The Westway in London on 20 June.
