Coxsey wins Melloblocco

8 May 2012

The 9th edition of the world’s premier bouldering festival Melloblocco was held last weekend in Italy’s Val Masino, Val di Mello and despite two days of rain eating into climbing time the four day event proved to be a real success.

This year the event attracted over 2200 climbers from grass roots through to the professional elite. New areas of the valley’s boulders had been developed specifically for the festival with a 120 new problems. The Elite were also set problems to compete on over the weekend with the women’s event won by the UK’s own Shauna Coxsey, carrying on her run of top form from her recent World Cup successes. Shauna topped out five competition problems beating leading boulderers such as Barbara Zangerl from Austria and the Russians Ekaterina Andreeva and Olga Iakovleva. The men’s event was won by Michele Caminati.

Shauna is both the current bouldering and Lead British Competition Champion, last year she managed to climb Pilgrim (8A+) at Parisellas Cave, North Wales. Shauna is sponsored by Five Ten. You can read more about Shauna's climbing on her blog.
