Climbing TV with National Geographic

The US climbing film company Sender Films has announced that it will be making a television series for National Geographic. The series will be based on their popular film ‘First Ascent’ which followed various climbers around the world in their quest for new rock and mountain routes.

There will be six episodes in the series and two have already been filmed. The first follows Chris Sharma’s efforts to climb a 9b+ in Spain and the US and the second heads to South America with Cedar Wright and Sean Leary to climb long trad routes in out of the way places. The remaining four episodes will be feature destinations from Alaska to the Himalayas.

Sender films writes on their blog, ‘It has been our long-held goal to present the dirt-bag heroes of the climbing world to a broader global audience, and we are very psyched to be producing what we think is the first-ever series dedicated to rock climbing culture.’

Hopefully the series will make it onto British TV screens through the National Geographic or another channel. It’s been nearly ten years since the BBC 2 series ‘Wild Climbs’ was on featuring a range of British climbers. It’s always interesting to see climbing and mountaineering presented to the non climbing public.
