Snow Banks in the Peak District

Deep snow is still banked up against the base of many of the Eastern Edges in the Peak District. Considerable snow fall over Christmas and New Year meant that at one point people were able to safely jump from the top of some parts of Stanage Edge! Though things have improved there are still considerable accumulations of snow against the base of some crags. This photo of Three Blind Mice (E7) at Burbage North taken earlier in the week shows 4/5 meters of snow at the base. This 10 meter high route with a scary landing has been temporarily turned into a 5 meter high boulder problem.  You’ve heard of soloing, trad climbing, sports climbing, bouldering, high balling – now we have ‘snow balling’.
